Introduction

Master Box has taken one of their leaps at a tangent and provided the modeller with four products featuring between one and three futuristic figures in a space port. The figures are a mix of mechanical and biological representations in 1/24th scale. The figures can be used individually and loosely combined to make a scene to behold.

Wow, I like it - MB24031

This is a three figure set offering a robot, an android and a human. The figures are well moulded being clean and free of defects that I can see. The figures break down in the usual format with the exception of some hands being supplied separately. The faces and the hands of the human and android are very well done features of this figure offering and will be hard to better even in resin. The robot has the benefit of parts that can be assembled in several locations rather than just the portrayed position. Something I really like about the female android is that Master Box has not over emphasized the female aspects of the figure.

Ivet – Android Waitress
Artificially created in the complete likeness of a human female, Ivet has the ability of self-learning, but was limited to the functions of a maintenance staff android. However, hackers found a way to bypass the restrictions in her settings which gave her unusual functions. Such intervention is absolutely illegal and is punishable by the authorities but that isn’t her problem, unless she gets caught. There are unconfirmed rumours that the government uses the services of hackers to change the functions of harmless robots and androids in their own interests. Ivet was once in the hands of such hackers. She has been used as an informer on numerous occasions by Drag, head of the security services on the space port.

Robie – Robot (Home Assistant Model, Heavily Modiefied)
Originally designed to be a home assistant, however fate (and some illegal componants) changed his life dramatically. Anton acquired him during one of his illegal military operations on a peripheral planet. Robie suffered quite a lot of damage during a fight between some mercenaries and the colonists and it was necessary to replace his left hand and one of his feet with parts from a fighting robot that was blown to pieces during the attack. During this process, Robie changed dramatically. His electronic brain took on some very uncharacteristic tendencies, one of which is he now has a very bizarre sense of humour (something not at all uploaded during his production).

Anton – Space Mercenary
Anton is a true space mercenary, he will take any job that is sent his way. He lives life by his motto ”One Day at a Time” and his only expectation is to survive. He would like to make enough money to live his life out in comfort on a small peripheral planet until he dies of old age. He has the skills and professionalism to complete any assignment. He doesn’t give his job a second thought, and has no idea how difficult some of his jobs are or have been, because ‘Lady Luck’ is always on his side.

Don’t Even Think about... – MB24033

This set consists of a single human female figure in what could best be described as an alluring pose. The figure is broken down in the typical manner we are all use to seeing and no issues jump out at me. There are some moulding seams which I don’t, but you may consider a problem. Looking at the figure I am again pleased to see that Master Box has not gone for the super model look and has instead used more realistic measurements while still producing a very female figure. This offering supplies a stool and short length of the bar along with some drinking vessels; I find myself wondering if set MB24032 is a full bar with stools and the like? The short length provided will work as a guidance for anyone wanting to scratch a full bar scene.

Jacqueline – Grifter
Jacqueline is unbelievably beautiful, a master of the art of seduction. Her allure and sense of danger attracts male and female adventurers alike. She is an expert with all firearms and she demonstrates her art on occasion, winning a bet easily and allowing her to keep undesirable boyfriends at a distance. Jacqueline use both her feminine charms and her specific knowledge in the field of psychotropic chemicals to gather information that is useful to her. She aquires secrets easily and then sells them for a profit to her own customers. However this time Jacqueline could not even imagine that the theft of the chemical formula from a government official, would lead her into a confrontation with the most powerful, most dangerous and ruthless organization in the whole Mastered space. This particular special division does not take kindly to people meddling in their affairs.

Keep Moving, Nothing to See Here Everything is Under Control - MB24034

This offering from Master Box consists of two figures and another short length of bar. The figures are Drag who is the law on station and human, the other is Joker who is a four armed humanoid who the bar owner. An examination of the sprues again provides me with a positive opinion of the mouldings. The positioning of parts on the sprues makes them very accessible for removal. The details on the various parts is good, in particular the crease detail is well done.

Drag – Head of Galactic Security Service (ALMAR Space Station)
Drag serves as sheriff on board the ALMAR Space Station. Although outstanding in his field, his tendencies to buck the system landed him here at this intermediate space station on the edge of space, that serves as a shelter/way point for refuelling and repairs of spaceships doing long distance flights into deep space. Although the crews of commercial vessels (both merchants and pirates) keep him busy, there are never any problems he can’t handle and he has it pretty easy. Until one not so wonderful day at the bar. Anton, Robie (his robot), Jacqueline and a strange couple from the undeveloped territories appeared at the bar and things will never be the same,

Joker – Owner and Barman
Joker a creature from the planet ‘Ug’. He has several names including his family one that humans can’t seem to pronounce. The inhabitants of the station call him either Multi-Armed Joe or Joker, because of the surprising resemblance he has to this card charactor. He works part time as an informer for Drag. He is very sociable, very restless and incredibly mobile. He has a small jet pack which allows him to serve the clients with unprecedented speed, fly around obstacles in the confines of his establishment with the agility of a fly. He knows everything about everyone and can gert absolutely everything (for a price). But even he could not imagine that the meeting between Jacqeline and that strange couple, in his bar would lead to such catastrophic consequences that his whole previously, orderly and quiet life would be so upset. His precious bar would be destroyed during a fight between the Government Special Forces and that random group of visitors. He is now on the run persecuted by the government and every bounty hunter out in space.

Back Off – MB24035

This is the last of the four sets released by Master Box and features a human female and a robot. I am pleased to say that Master Box has again exercised restraint when it comes to the female figure and we are provided with a figure that has a more usual physique. This figure is the least covered of the offerings offered thus far, but all of the essentials are covered. Detail is again very good and with careful painting will create a very nice pair of figures. The hand and facial features are excellent and I can honestly say the face looks female rather than male with long hair. The robot has been tackled in such a way that assembly in a stance other than portrayed will easily be possible.

BungeeBgala (Bgala) – Hunter/MarAx Clan Ambassador
Bgala is a female warrior from the MarAx Clan located in the distant underdeveloped territories. Her favourite hubby is hunting the most dangerous predators on the most hostile planets. She is known for her unswerving sense of honour and duty. Her severe conditions growing up have formed her into a cruel and inflexible fighter. She is the first person the head of the MarAx clan calls on when there is a difficult assignment and he knows she will follow his orders unquestioningly. The clan sent her to meet with Jacqueline and acquire the information they seek (a secret formula that was stolen from an off world government official). When she met with Jacqueline on the ALMAR space station, they were attacked immediately by the special mission unit of the Galactic Security Service. If not for Boomer they would have been defeated. Bgala also returned fire., causing chaos in the bar and a fight ensued, that forced the rest of the visitors of the bar to fight also, destroying the bar and joining our group together if for no other purpose than to survive.

BOOMER – Fighting Robot Model # 1-6-39
Since working with Bgala, they have also earned the nickname B&B because they work so well together. They think and act as one, this is one of the reasons they survived the attack in the bar on ALMAR space station. He was created exclusively as a fighting model but has received numerous up-grades that make him far superior to any other fighting robot in production. He has evolved and has his own intelligence, which allows him to accomplish tasks independent of his mission parameters. He is programmed to unconditionally follow Bgala’s orders, but he has also become fond of her and will not allow anyone or anything to harm her. He would gladly give up his own life to save her. He is constantly scanning every known channel and bio scans of humans and other life forms in search of potential threats to Bgala. Therefore anyone who wants to address or communicate with Bgala needs to use extreme caution, as Boomer can and will attack without warning if he feels that Bgala or the B&B tam are threatened.

Conclusion

These figure sets from Master Box are an interesting offering. This appears to be a first set with future releases planned if these sell well, and they have a back ground story to add further appeal to them. The quality of these offerings is high, the faces being particularly good. The faces of the female figures are actually female in appearance, something I find rare as the faces are often male with added hair. The figures will work well together and also separately in various settings; the choice is up to you. Painting guides are offered, but due to the nature of these sets you can use whatever colours you wish, and that includes the skin colours.
SUMMARY
Highs: The fact that the faces of the females look feminine and are not excessively endowed.
Lows: A bar as indicated in the box art would have been a good inclusion in all of the sets and that ideally would lock together.
Verdict: A very nice selection of figures that can work in various settings or as a group.

1/24 isn't my usual scale but this look pretty nice. I wouldn't mind trying to work up a diorama using all of them.
