I really appreciate the product variety of Evolution Miniatures and talent of Sergey Traviansky on sculpting very different subjects. Besides the modern Russian figures, the company has German, British, Russian and American figures from World War II European , Pacific and Africa theaters and also Vietnam War.
EM-35035 American Marines in Fight- Vietnam includes two Marines figures heavily loaded with personal gear ,passing over a wall of a ruined building.
The kit comes well packed in standard Evolution Miniatures 70x100x35 mm hard cardboard box . The front part of the box shows a photo of the figure painted by Oleg Drobov which can serve as a basic painting guide. Inside the box, the parts are represented with the casting blocks. Two body parts, small parts and figure base parts are seperately inserted in small plastic zip-lock bags to avoid unexpected damages during transfer.
The figures are nicely sculpted by Sergey Traviansky and cast in grey color resin in crisp details. A quick cleanwork is needed to remove the slightly visible seamlines.
Posed to jump over the ruined wall, the figure is given as a single piece without head and arms but most of the personal gear are cast on the figure. He wears a M1955 flakvest over his OD utility T-shirt, tropical combat trousers with cargo pockets and leather/canvas combined jungle boots. Cloth folds of the trousers, torn effect on some parts of the uniform, details of the flak vest like zip front closure, integral cartridge belt holder, collar, rifle guard on the right shoulder and dogtag are all well defined. He carries two M16 ammo bandoliers on his chest with canvas straps crossed on shoulders. The straps are well represented and bandolier on the right side is cast on the figure as the other one is given as a seperate part. M16 magazine pouch, hand grenade pouch, M18 smoke grenade and first-aid kit pouch are cast on the figure in nice details.
Head : It shows nice facial details and wears a M1 steel helmet with canvas cover. Torn effect on the top of helmet cover, cigarette pack on the right side, insect repellent on the left side and 3 playing cards inserted to the helmet band in front are nice details.
Right arm : Posed to carry a M16 rifle grabbing the carrying handle. Short sleeve of shirt, blood vessels on the arm (maybe a little exaggerated) and details of the rifle are well defined.
Left arm : Posed to put his hand on the wall when jumping over. Blood vessels and wrist watch are nice details.
Other parts are ; M16 bandolier to be attached on the left side of chest, M17 gasmask case and M1956 one quart canteen for the left hip, M61 fragmentation grenade next to the M16 magazine pouch and left skirt part of shirt to be glued on the left leg where it meets the flak vest . It was really hard to identify this part and I thought the necessity of given this as a seperate part.
Posed to get ready to jump over the wall after his teammate and checking around. The figure is also given as a single piece as the first figure but almost all personal gear are cast on it. He has tropical jungle uniform of four pocket jacket , combat trousers with two cargo pockets on sides and jungle boots. He wears M1955 flak vest over his uniform. Cloth folds, loaded pockets of the uniform, vest details and straps crossed on chest are well represented. M16 magazine inserted on the pocket of vest is a nice touch. He carries a Claymore mine bag on the left and ammo bandolier on the right. Gasmask case, first-aid kit pouch and water bottle are cast on the figure in nice details.
Head : Facial details and moustache are well defined. He wears a M1 steel helmet with canvas cover with 2 spare camera films attached to the helmet band. A nice idea for helmet as the figure carries 2 cameras.
Right arm : Posed to put his hand on the wall. It shows nice cloth folds.
Left arm : Posed to carry the M16 rifle. Cloth folds and button on the cuff are well defined.
M16 rifle : Left hand is cast on the rifle and a M9 USMC bayonet is attached to M16. Bayonet looked a little short to my eyes.
Other parts are ; M16 bandolier to be attached on the right side. I think the best detail on this figure kit is the 2 cameras given for this figure. They look like Minolta or Nikkormat cameras widely used in Vietnam War. These parts need a short cleanwork to remove the seamlines.
A very nice figure base in 3 parts. A ruined wall with battle damage and brick details on both sides and 2 parts of ground with nice texture and rubble are included in the kit . The ground pieces make good fit to the wall part but you should be careful on which part will be glued to which side so please try it well before assembly. As it is assembled together, it forms a very nice scenette and the modeler will no need for another work when displaying the figures.
Nice sculpted figures in good poses, high quality cast in crisp details with minimal need for cleanwork, good details like cameras, playing cards and camera films on helmets and a very nice figure base.
Very Highly Recommended
