In-Box Review
54mm
Viking Warlord X AD

by: Costas Rodopoulos [ MAJOR_GOOSE ]

This is a 54 mm figure, from Spanish Andrea Miniatures, Series Medieval Knights, code SMF43 named “Viking Warlord X AD”, and is a late 2004 release representing a Viking Warlord with his dog

The Pack:

The figure is boxed in the classic Andrea pack style with a completed figure on the front and and four more pictures of the finished figure on the back for painting reference. There is also a color chart for Andrea paints.

The figure:

It’s really nice opening this one !!!
Inside the builder will find all 14 white metal pieces in a big fat sheet of foam for protection .
The figure itself is molded in one solid piece(torso and legs) while individual parts include the left hand with axe, right hand, a bare head and a head with helmet. Additional parts include a nose protector for helmet, sword, knife, two pieces of hair bands, a small base and three parts for the dog ( two for the body and one for the head).

I really think this is one of the Andreas best figures I have seen. The chain mail is superbly sculpted and it will be a challenge to do it justice when painting it!

The facial characteristics are absolutely fantastic and I highly appreciated that Andrea gives me a spare head of this quality after choosing which one I‘ll use (One comes with a helmet and the other is a bare head). The clothing has some nice folds to enhance shadowing and highlighting.

All the equipment is nicely sculpted and cast . The dog has very fine body hair sculpting that cries for careful painting to show off the dtail of this this almost lifelike sculpting.

Overall the casting is of very high quality and requires no cleaning or corrections other than the usual treatment with some fine wool wire and a good cleaning with soap.

The pose is a relaxed one , with the very very beautiful dog standing faithfully at his masters feet.

Conclusion:

I don't know what we mean when we say that something is very good but we wont give it a 10 rank -- saving it for a perfect figure or kit. For me this a super nice figure and I couldn’t ask for more. Its’ a 10 for me !!
This figure is superb choice, really cool subject that doesn’t appear to be too difficult for the average painter.

Highly Recommended

About Costas Rodopoulos (Major_Goose)
FROM: KIKLADHES, GREECE / Ελλάδα

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
