Hello gents, Here's my current project, and my first sculpting work. There's obviously a lot of work to be done on it, but I'd like to hear your comments and thoughts about it. This figure depict a sturmtruppen member, during the 1918 western offensive. putty are fimo and magic sculp, and tape for puttees. Have a great day, Alex. |

good to see you having a go at sculpting Alex, do you have a reference image you are working from ? I am just wondering that the trousers crotch seems very low which makes the legs apear short. keep us posted, Steve |

Thanks for your kind words Engin. Steeve, there's indeed a lot of anatomic matters on this first try. Even if I've followed fine arts curses, there's a gap beetween drawings and sculpture... I've cut with a saw the upper torso, earning 4mm. That's where I'm now : just a very little better : The next step is the asault pack, the stahlhelm and the belt. Bye, Alex. |

Hey Alexandre, Good to see you sculpting! Just a small critique, the torso seems very long in comparison to the head.... Rudi |

Salut Alexandre,
Nice start. The pose reminds me a fantasy figures well known, I don't remeber the name of, but I guess it is assasin perse or something like that. Do you mix Fimo and magic scuplt or did you used them separately ? I was told that the fimo needs to be cooked in an oven. Did you do that, even if it's mixed with MS ? I wonder what type of trousers you are depicting ? From the pics it looks like a saroual. I will follow this one, as I'm in the subjet also ans it's also good to share experiences.
Best, Julien |

hahahaha Nope Rudi but I'm a very famous bad sculptor however! Thanks Rudi, Anthony and Julien. Well, this guy is out of proportion for sure. Julien : I've done the base with Fimo, then cooked it in an oven. That's allow you to have a hard thing to work with in 15 minutes. Well : you're right for the saroual pants ! I was just so happy to be in the folds stage that I could not stop me. So it's ended with XXXXL size pants... I've just done another wire structure, far more correct in general shape. Pics to come today! Thanks for the feedback gents! |

Hey Rudi : Spot on !! Nice to read you again, you and your famous sense of humour !
Re Alexandre,
We present the same defaults, as 99% of the beginner sculptors do I guess : we love the folds, the more there is folds everywhere, the more we are happy and satisfied, even if at the end the guy clothes looks like if they directly come out from whashing machine. I realised that only one or two big folds are sufficient, they have to be "simulated" or suggested simply. and by the way where are you with your nice other projects ? re by the way : by any chance would you come to Sèvres exhibition ? best, julien

LOL! Sense of humour? What's that? I don't have one according to my in-laws... I think to survive them I do need one Actually, I was thinking his pants look to be the same style that's currently en voug (spelling?)... you know... those "skinny" jeans but worn with the crotch hanging halfway down the thigh? Hey Alex... you know what I mean? I'm sure you wear them like that? |

Big LoL ! I understand what you are saying about in laws. My ex in laws didn't even know the sens of the term humour... My new father in law is an ex commandant of the foreign legion, but he's much more fun than the previous ! And re big LOL about the skinny/slim pants.. I bet Alexandre, by interpretating his profile picture, MUST wear this kind of pants, listen to new kids rock bands, play an old guitar in front of the girls, and thinks he can revolutionate the fate of the world by the power of scale modelling Alexandre, could you confirm ? hahahaha Julien and Rudi, glad to see my sculpting abilities can give you such a fun time... Well, My english vocabulary about fashion is quite limited, but I can only say that my job doesn't allow me to wear these type of pants... Well, and for the rest, uuuh, I've never handed a guitar in my whole life... Now, maybe, back to scale modelling??? |

Wow Alexandre, I'm so glad to see you here, sculpting a figure !
Off topic : where can I find your living topics my friend ? I have been searching but didn't find them !? Strange. The figure now, I'm not an experienced sculptor but there are enough masters here to give good advice. I can only say that I like the overall style, there are some very artistic areas in it.

Thanks Rudi and Julien! I will not say my real age, cause my birth date is probably the year you've bought your first modelkit... Hi Guy, that's so good to hear from you! All my modeller friends gathered in one topic! Well, you know I'm the modelling community's flying dutchman... I vanish and appear here and there, with a new topic....never finishing something however.... So my other topics (I think you're talking about the Cretan dio and the alpine one) are buried in the diorama section... I've finished one vignette, (das stechmücke programm) that will be published probably in one or other next SteelMasters issue. Cheers mates, it's great to have a fun with you! Bye! Alexandre. |

hehe, sorry for taking yout thread so far off-topic, Alexandre. As for your sculpting skills, my friend, there's nothing wrong with them But yes, I think I did get my first model kit a few years before you were born Quoted Text

Cool topic. Alex you are under attack here mate. First for your sculpting, copying another figure, your fashion, your age... lol lol lol Happy birthday for the other day. Wow we were PMing each other and you didn't mention it! Don't worry about your youthfulness, remember I am the epitome of young They are just jealous. Anyway I think the figure looks excellent. Very creative, which is great. I think with arms and feet, the torso won't look strange. I'm just guessing though as I haven't actually sculpted a whole figure before. Chas |

Hey Alexandre This is a great start mon ami! I remember my first sculpt which kind of went the other way to yours in not having any of your 'flow', but was instead much rougher to look at. I would definitely print out a scale diagram showing anatomical proportions. My method is to have a torso and pelvis made previous. You could make these from Fimo initially and carve them to shape... To these I would add the armiture wires for the limbs, all the time working off the scale diagram... This may sound a little disturbing, but picture your figure naked under the putty and visualise whether the body is in proportion, such as neck length etc. Look forward to an update! Brad |
