After the 1812 campaign it was determined that lancers were overloaded with gear for light cavalry. So they were reorganized into rows according to order in the charge. The first row had lances and no carbines. The second row had carbines but no lances. The only one who had both was the corporal. (In French brigadier

So the omission of the carbine on a Lance armed Lancer is actually correct. This figure lacks the rank insignia of a corporal.
