Introduction
Kings Cliff is a hard foam model from
Ziterdes, released in cooperation with scenery masters
NOCH. Scaled for 25-28mm, this outcrop with an exposure is versatile and can be used for sci-fi, wargaming and fantasy gaming, and perhaps melded into historical modeling.
Kings Cliff is

Welcome to the world of
Ziterdes!
Kings Cliff
This model is cast in hard foam. While this is rigid hard foam, it can be manipulated with heat, so be careful what you set it near. The foam is both very tough and light, more so than resin or ceramic. It can be easily cut, ground and honed, as well as painted.
These models are made to stand alone or be joined with related models and incorporated into larger scenes.
This model is packaged, common to
Ziterdes, as wrapping the model is plastic and gluing it to a sturdy card sheet. One oddity:
Ziterdes' packaging identifies the product with a sticker bearing the name and item number. My
Kings Cliff tag states
Kӧnigsfelsen, which is "Kings Cliff," but the translation underneath is "Petrified Troll."
Detail
Onto this one-piece casting
Ziterdes sculpted a spiraling stairs and huge exposure of a noble warrior, stone buttressing, and obviously exposed rock.
Scale
This outcropping is scaled to the common fantasy wargaming, skirmish-level, science fiction, and role-playing scale of 25-28mm; that is 1/64 (S gauge for model railroading). If you have read the previous
Ziterdes reviews you will recall that the models were displayed with several scales. Modelers can use this for forced-perspective although if one is a scalist, you will be limited to a narrow range of scales.
This model bears a footprint of:
Width 260 mm (10 1/4 inches)
Length 210 mm (8.25 inches)
Height 170 mm (6 2/3 inches)
Painting
I have not tested this foam with solvent-based paint. Acrylics can be applied without worry.
Conclusion
Thoughts of the Fellowship of the Ring navigating The Argonath, (a.k.a. The Gates of Argonath, or The Pillars of Kings) came to mind when I first saw this model.
Ziterdes thinks that
Kings Cliff will be popular with
The Lord of the Rings and I agree. I also think this hard foam scenery piece will be welcomed by other fantasy and sci-fi modelers and gamers.
Surface texture and detailing of the rock and sculpting is very convincing.
Kings Cliff will look impressive painted up or not, and should enhance modeling and gaming scenes.
Thanks to Ziterdes' partner NOCH for providing this model for review! Please mention to NOCH and Ziterdes, and retailers, that you saw this product here - on Historicus Forma!
