90mm Panzer Officer w/Turret
SS Panzer Officer Easter Front 1944 with T-34/76 Model 1943 Turret
  • YM9001-1

by: Costas Rodopoulos [ MAJOR_GOOSE ]

One of the latest releases from Korean Young Miniatures, one that has been well received by the modeling world, is a 90mm SS Panzer Officer on the Eastern Front 1944 including a T-34/76 Model 1943 turret. I donít recall another figure kit in 90mm including a complete turret. Young Miniatures succeeds once again in releasing a figure with a difference.

The Kit (whatís in the box):

The 90 mm kit comes in the usual Young Miniaturesí boxing: a big, black, hard luxury carton box, with a transparent plastic sleeve over it, to protect the color picture of the box art. Inside the box, all the pieces, carefully placed, grouped in smaller zip lock transparent plastic bags.

This 90mm kit is cast in a yellowish-cream color resin of high quality. It contains more than 60 pieces for the turret construction and 13 pieces for the figure. Also included is a metal name plate, a feature that lately has been a standard in Youngís kits.

An assembly guide printed on color paper is also included to help you out making the turret block in the proper way. 2 pictures of the painted figure are also included.

Quality & Detail:

This kit must have taken enough time at Young to release, mostly because of the turret. It is obvious that they did not want to release just a turret wreck of a few pieces, but a complete pack of details for a carefully researched piece of the most famous Russian Tank ever.

The whole kit, turret and figure, is designed and painted by Young B. Song himself.

The amount of detail on the turret piece is really impressive, and it will take some time to assemble that .The sharpness of the pieces is really good, and I think that fitting will not be a problem. Just a guess!

The figure consists from 13 pieces (feet, torso, heat, cap, 2 shoes, 2 arms, 2 hands, holster, and 2 parts of the machine gun).

On the figure, the casting is beautiful, and the quality of resin is the usual known one of the company that we have seen in older kits. Moving away the casting pegs will be the most work you will have to do. No air holes or anything else that will need to be repaired. Once you get the pegs out, you are ready to assemble and prime.

On the parts of the turret, some more cleaning work will be needed as they are lot more, and many of them are small and their shape evolves thin chips of resin that you will easily clean with a fresh blade. You will just need patience and time.

Setting the whole set of turret and figure, has a lot of possibilities for placing. The box art option is one, but you can make a lot more for sure!

Painting it:

Lovers of WWII will do their research for different options than the camouflage pants of the figures box art, as the leather jacket, do not has many ways of alternation.

The turret can take loads of weathering, paint chipping, and anything a crazy tank modeler would like to perform. Itís up to you to decide.

This is a beautiful subject, and one of the most completely presented kits which stands alone as a vignette. This kit will definitely satisfy the WWII fans and especially the ones on the German side! Modelers will, however, need patience and some experience on the turret construction, due to the big number of pieces.

The figure is beautiful and the challenge is the painting of the leather jacket and the camouflage pants.

High quality, in casting on a nicely designed kit will satisfy you for sure.

Highly Recommended

Highs: High quality, in casting on a nicely designed kit . I donít recall another figure kit in 90mm including a complete turret.
Lows: Modelers will need patience and some experience on the turret construction, due to the big number of pieces
Verdict: Young Miniatures succeeds once again in releasing a figure with a difference.

About Costas Rodopoulos (Major_Goose)

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...

What a wonderful piece. How much is it? I think the complete turret in 90mm could add quite a bit to the price... Mario.
