Greek firm “YS Masterpieces”, is not a new company in modeling. For many years they create naval models of high precision and accuracy , and as a casting company is also making all Pegaso castings in resin (sceneries, busts, Fantasy figures, e.t.c.)
This means that their specialty in resin casting is something assured, and I believe that is one of the best resin casting companies at least all over Europe.
Now dealing with figures is another thing! But is really nice to see new efforts in the neighborhood . Under review here, we have a bust kit called “The Thief”scaled in 200 mm, sculpted by talented Greek Sculptor Michael Kontraros, and the box art painted from <İ>Michael Gurogianisİ>.
Packing – First Impression
The box is a black box from hard sturdy carton , and is really good in size to have the pieces placed in comfort, with no fear of breakings and damages. The kits parts are very well protected in dark colour foam material sheets, and this insures the safety even in long distance transportation.
Remember that this kind of box is really handy to keep after painting the model for many uses .
The Kit (what’s in the box)
The kit comes in a grey color resin and in a total of 4 pieces (bust , sword handle, belt part, base) and 2 metal pieces for the earrings of the “Thief”.
The bust is a good sized savage like person , that would take many representations. Ancient Warrior, Fantasy bust, Connan like personality , or anything else you might like to think ! Its also open for smaller or bigger modifications , like adding facial hair , some shield part on the back , more leather belts on the chest or anything else.
Quality – Detail
What you will first realize after opening the box is the high quality of casting ?
Absolutely professional work , of good quality resin material, with perfect surface , no air bubbles or imperfections of any kind .
There is minimal cleaning to do for this kit, and most of the work will go to clean a very thin line on the wolf’s head but this will not take more than 5 minutes.
The bust it self does not carry any casting lines, so you can proceed really fast to painting!
Now the sculpting is really good, the muscle tone looks good, the face has an angry expression, and the hair representation is really something that you don’t meet every day in such detail both on the man’s hair and the wolf’s fur.
The sword handle has enough space on its flat part to put a small metal pin for attaching it at the main part of the bust, and secure it.
The small base is really made, with some cracks and lines, and can be representing many different materials when painted.
That’s a relatively free theme with lots of flesh to paint and I think there should be the major interest of the painter. Of course the wolf’s fur , will also need some attention to look real.
A nice tattoo would add interest on the naked body in my opinion, and might be a recognizing factor for the specific painted bust when finished.
This is a really nice first effort for YS Masterpieces in the range of figures .
The nice sculpting of a free theme, the superb quality casting, good packing , leave a very positive first impression for this effort, and I wish we see more of this new but also “old” Greel company.
Highs: Perfect casting, and good size, makes it easy for converting if desired , but also a perfect free theme painting .Lows: Not suggested theme era specified .Verdict: High quality , good for all kinds of experimentattions. Recomended
Our Thanks to YS Masterpieces! This item was provided by them for the purpose of having it reviewed on this KitMaker Network site. If you would like your kit, book, or product reviewed, please contact us.

I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
