Having a wide range of 1/35 scale metal female figures in uniforms from different nations served in different periods of war, Aurora Model lately released 2 new figure kits; ML-039 and ML-040 representing U.S. Army nurses served in Korean war.

about the figure

Just like in World War II, Army nurses in Korean War served very close to the front lines of the war. As a rule, they were the only military women allowed into the combat theater during this war. Nurses served in Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals (MASH), field hospitals, hospital trains, and on Army transport ships during the early weeks of the war. The Nurses Corps was involved in many combat situations during which they exhibited an undaunted spirit of dedication and bravery. As a result of their bravery and courage under fire, the nurses received 9 Legions of Merit, 120 Bronze Stars and 173 Commendation Ribbons during Korean War.
Inspired by the photo below; Kiyoshi Tsuda sculpted two US Army nurses served in Korean War which shows great alikeness to the original photo.

packing

The figure comes in a 12x7 cm transparent zip-lock bag with a company label stapled on the top of the bag. Inside the bag; there are 2 small paper sheets ; one with the information about the figure in Japanese and English, the other with a painted photo of the figure that can be used as a painting guide. It is noted on the information sheet that the metal of the figures contains lead.
Figure parts are secured in another plastic bag.

parts

The cast is quite good, there are slightly visible seamlines to clean. A quick sanding will be enough to make it ready for priming. Both of the figures, posed to lean on behind to a vehicle, come in 2 parts ; upper and lower bodies. Facial details and hair are quite well defined. They wear Olive Drab color HBT (Herringbone twill) summer uniform of shirt and trousers. The shirt has two oversized breast patch style pockets with flap covers secured in buttons. It has 5 large plastic buttons in front and a black nametag with gold letters over one of the pockets which was characteristic for Korean War. The trousers has two oversized patch pockets with flap covers on thighs and two rear pockets, all secured in buttons. As for the footgear; both of the figures wear leather combat boots and one of the figures has leggings over her boots.

conclusion

Useful figures that can be displayed with a Jeep or Dodge Ambulance. They can be used in Korean War MASH scenes or a vignette as in the original photo can be created with these figures.
