Harv, I would say the last one is my favorite. How does it look scaled down?

Glad you like it. It is the actual banner size. Andrzej stated that he might work on a banner as well. I am no pro at them and I hope that others offer up some designs as well.

Thanks,
Randy

I need to learn new painting techniques, so I'd like to jump in on this one. I really don't know what's available out there, mostly looking for weird stuff like insects, deep sea creatures, and dinosaurs. I would prefer something that doesn't look too toy-like if possible. An awesome squid would be nice...

Jeremy,
If you like to do an awesome squid....Pegasus Hobby makes a Nautillus sub being attacked by a beautifully rendered squid.
Hope this helps....good luck with the GB.
Bill.

Yes, I may go with that, but not sure I can build fast enough to finish it in a timely manner. I will build one for sure, it'll just be a slow process. Their shark kit with the diver is pretty nice too. I think I'll have to focus on a more simple kit for this round.

Finally broke out the digital camera, so here are some better quality shots of my finished 1/12 Aurora Stallion done with a Buckskin coat to hopefully inspire more people to participate in our upcoming campaign.

This was my first ever figure model and I honestly couldn't be happier with how it turned out, particularly the eyes (which were my biggest fear doing this kit as practically all my other skills from vehicle modelling transfer over for the rest of the required work).

Here you can see the stripe down the spine that is typical of this type of horse. The splotches are not mistakes, but rather rot-braun paint flug at the model to simulate dried mud on the coat.

A closeup showing the face detail.

And another one showing the base detail.

Thanks for looking, lets get some more participants! Would love to see someone who has some of those rather expensive and up-to-date resin dinosaur kits.

The horse looks great Van; you did an excellent job with it. I am ready for the campaign to start. I don't have any reviews to work on and I have finished all of the other campaigns that I was in........so I am ready and willing to get going.

Here is another banner that I made up this morning. I thought I would see what everyone thought of it.

Thanks,
Randy

That's a nice banner and think it would make a cool ribbon as well. The Stallion looks awesome hope my bison comes out half as good

Randy, the last one is my favorite. Would you mind adding the campaign dates in one of the bottom corners? I hope you don't mind if I use it in my signature.

Here is my selection, the Atlantis "North American Black Bear and Cubs". I had fun with the other Aurora kit and it seems a number of people are eyeing doing the bison, so I left that one in the stash for a future date. It stays in the sealed bag until August 1st (I will be busy finishing a campaign for Aeroscale until then anyway), but I will upload these shots now.

Van, glad you like the banner. Here are a couple of different designs with the dates added. I used two different colors and they are moved a little bit. I also made up a ribbon to see what you think of it. Please let me know which banner you like and I will put them in the Photobucket Historicus Forma album so that everyone can use them in their signature block if they wish.

And the ribbon

The banner and the ribbon are now both in the HFcampaigns album on Photobucket.

As the campaign leader, I guess it falls to me to officially start the proceedings.

I broke into the bag to start building my 1/10 scale N.A. Black Bear diorama scene last night. Here are the parts drying. My favorite thing about figure models is (generally) you get to do all the construction in one fell swoop.

Before...

...And here is the after photo...

Basic construction is complete save for the adult bear's head. I am painting the mouth before closing that up. You may or may not notice the mouth got a preliminary black undercoat (since the plastic is black too). The parts fit much better than they did on the white stallion kit, so the filling/sanding process will go much faster.

Here is an in-progress photo of my entry.

I am working on the buffalo filling gaps and removing seam lines and flash. I still have to do the same with the prairie dogs. I have removed some of the molded details from the base as I like to use my own items to make my bases look more realistic. I am going to re-do the prairie dog mound as it looks more like volcano instead of an actual prairie dog mound. Here is what a real one looks like.

I should have another photo or two to share soon.

Thanks,
Randy

Harv,

Looking good, and that prairie dog hole could definitely use some work though it looks like it could be fixed with some attentive sanding. Anybody else gonna get started? It's lonely in here!

As promised....

I don't think it will be much of a struggle to build (13 pieces!), but I do want to add some better detail for the hairs around the edges of the wing cases as the kit is just a cast blob, as oposed to anything resembling hair.
