Keith
I remember visiting a model shop when I was doing a canal boat trip with the family !
The guy only had a couple of 1/72 model ships in the basement ! HMS Fearless was one, but can't remember what the other was ! It was massive !
I would love the patience and money and skill to do something like that !

Well i for one can't afford to buy most of the kits out there these days, i built the Italeri 1/35th S-Boat back in 2008 and added all scratchbuilt mines etc, and R/C motors had her running on the water, then i see that they have brought another one out, but earlier an S-38 with a normal bridge, i would love to have this but at a £170, bit to much for my pockets, and as i said the same goes for a lot of kits out there, and as i work nearly seven days a week, then finding the time to build, so i mostly scratch build the things that intrest me, In 1/350th scale two years a go i built HMS.Plymouth before she got scrappped and then did the first aircraft carrier from 1914 HMS.Ark royal, at the moment i am doing HMS.Fearless., works out around 17 inches long
They are not works of art like some of the members models here, and the eyesight is starting to fad with age but at the end of the day, when i finsh a model i feel chuffed as there's no other one out there the same.

Attn: Scratch Builders(One edit already: The model does not have to be totally scratch built.
Only a significant portion or a single significant feature needs be scratched to qualify.)Gentlemen
I am proposing a scratch builders campaign - any subject, any scale, any era, any medium.Started builds allowed.
(a chance to finish some of those shelf queens!)Also if editorial management allows - models being built for other campaigns/contests would be allowed AND for those finishing three or more builds a special ribbon in addition to the primary ribbon.
Would you perhaps be interested?
Best Regards

We are trying to put together a scratch builders campaign over on the armor blog.
Calling all Scratch Builders- Any subject, any era, any medium -
All your model has to do is to include a small to fair amount of scratch building - it does not have to be full scratch!

I take that back. I do know what my proposed new scratch built campaign project would be:
This rather unusual CCKW based, Australian built aircraft crane. I am gathering parts and plans right now for the project!

Not sure right now just what the subject would be - but I would definitely be up for a scratch builder's campaign.
Count me in!

I'm still scratchbuilding these days. I haven't stopped and doing some big projects. I haven't posted here lately due to the fact there was no interest so I post on FaceBook. I've been doing a lot of interior work on some of the newer modern US armor. I also just finished a few US heavy hull trailers, military generators w/ trailers and so on...
Happy Modeling,

I follow a few scratchbuilders. None of them are members here, they're on other boards, or have their own sites.
The two off the top of my head:
Alexander De Leon (Sctach-builder.com)
and
Charles Rowley is one who does Fire apparatus. (on ScaleFireHouse.com)
I've had the pleasure of doing some 3-D CAD work for him on one of his current projects.
I haven't been doing much scratchbuilding, as much as kitbashing lately.
Thank you.

Hi Bob! We shoulda talked about it yesterday at OnTrack...
One of these days I'll have to get back to it, but for now it sits in a box. I'm not surprised the gear looks similar to the Sherman ARV - I'm guessing the same folks were involved in both fit-outs!

Good work Tom. Many of the components look very like those in the Sherman ARV I that I drew up and started scratchbuilding years ago, just located differently to fit the A27 hull.

Hi Roger
How are you doing ? I have been away from the plastic for a while after I lost my mojo again ! Drops one of my models at Dundee last year and only just got around to repairing it last night !
Hoping to get into a new project now with a 1/24 Bedford MK by KFS and scratchbuild an UBRE pod to go on the back !
Hope you are keeping well !

Like I've said elsewhere, these days there is so much available in kit form that I tend to "scratch-bash" rather than "scratch build". It's all about the path of least resistance to achieve my modelling goals...

I had some scratchbuilding plans, a Husky for instance, but then it turned up as a kit. I had also started collecting references for a PTS-M but then a resin kit came along. A KrAZ-255 looked like a real challenge, a paper card model was purchased to serve as templates and then Roden followed by Hobby Boss announced plans for kits. There are some other examples as well (Swedish CV-90 and others).
This thread illustrates the current situation:
http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=252269&page=1 Before you bother to ask: No, I hadn't even thought about scratchbuilding that huge fire truck
I have downloaded the IMR-1/Objekt 616 paper model from this site:
http://www.e63papermodel.altervista.org/ab-41-feroviaria.htmlMaybe I get a chance to start it before Trumpeter or someone else comes along with a kit of it

Just remembered I'd posted a similar question back in 2006 !
How manyinteresting to compare the responses, albeit a few from the original post have passed-away but also how many are no longer active members on Kitmaker

.
So again, please help try and re-invigorate this section of the forum.
Ta.
