Hopefully you have seen the review of Small Chapel by Model Scene.


How does it build up?

Model Scene's laser work is sharp and the pieces come loose from their "sprues" with no trouble. The tab and slot construction is very tight and holds the model together with little effort. I assembled the model with Uhu glue although I also hit the joints with the thin BSI CA for extra strength. (I'm clumsy.)

Even the paper parts are surprisingly easy to attach to the card pieces. When it comes to glue, a little dab'll do ya'.

The most challenging assembly is the bell. It is made up of four beveled increasingly smaller diameter parts for the bell, and yet over a dozen paper pieces for the striker and mounting bolt. Those paper pieces are just too small and paper-thin for me. Otherwise, a nice coat of bronze paint makes a nice looking bell.

Good question. Model Scene uses laser-cut paper vertical evenly aligned quoining (if that is a real term) for the corners, foundation trim, and other areas.



The bell tower roof is interesting. Four parts to align by eyeball and feel. The dark area is superglue for added strength. Short lengths of flashing are supplied but not yet applied to hide the gaps.


Still lacking about a dozen parts but otherwise complete.

Thanks, looks pretty good so far. Superglue on the cardboard to stiffen it is a great tip.

This neat little chapel is complete. I painted her with Tru-Color TCP-418 Matte Stucco- Cream. Some assembly observations:

The flashing around the roof and eaves is made of laser-cut paper. Once it is painted, it is surprisingly stiff and easy to work with. I attached them by applying glue in the "dot dot dot" method. I now suggest you actually paint the entire underside of each piece with glue before attaching it.

On each door are tiny 2-piece door handles. Tiny indeed - about 1/2 the size of a pin head! Paint them first and let the paint dry before cutting them from the sheet. Work over some bright white paper. These little parts are easy to drop and loose.

The instructions are not as obvious as I would like in guiding the sequence of attaching flashing around the bell tower and attaching the roof peak capping. Put on the flashing, then attach the capping.

Covering the tab-n-slots of the bell tower structure are four veneers of paper. Again, paint the entire undersides of each piece with glue before attaching it instead of using dots of glue. That should allow the edges to meld into the other.

Overall, a very enjoyable and challenging build. Model Scene's engineering and cutting is superb.

Looks nice Fred. You did a good job. I like the weathering that you did on the roof. I don't know why, but my favorite detail is the bell.

I've never built a lazer cut kit of that material yet but I have a beach life guard stand of that material I've yet to start.
