Hey All!

I've been working on a vignette of Napoleon inside his command tent observing a map at a lap desk and I had a question of places to acquire scale fur. I originally used a simple paper print out of cheetah print, but I found it simple seems too lifeless and adds little to the scene. If anyone could give me some pointers to a suitable solution, it would be much appreciated!

Here's a general idea of the pattern i'm trying to go for

Jim,
The only thing I can think of is to visit a store that does a lot of picture framing. There is a type of matting that resembles suede and might give you the scale texture you are looking for. If you could find one in a good base color you would have to paint in the leopard spots, either manually or using a mask of some sort.

I admit it's not a great solution, but it's all I've come up with.

Hey Mark!

Thanks for the suggestion, I've been scowering up and down the internet but so far it appears to be the only solution that seems to be reasonable. Thanks!

wasn't there a company that made rugs in 1/35 scale I seem to remember seeing bring used on diorama in a magazine. it was all rolled up and strapped to the top of bdrm irc, this might be the company I am thinking of:

Hey David!

I have been thinking that my best bet would be possibly to have a cloth rug of some sort and have the cheetah rug (while still present ) less emphasized. I didn't know about these however, i'll have to check them out!

All I can suggest is to go to a dress maker's shop, or store where they sell material by the yard (or meter), examine all the patterns and see if they have anything useful. They usually also have a box for scraps and off-cuts if you don't want to buy a full yard of material.
