Hi, I am building Andrea's Beau Geste figure (French Legionnaire) and I am at the point where my uniform is completely painted (no shading yet). This figure has a blue tunic and white trousers. Here are my questions:
1. What colors should use to outline this uniform?
2. Is Burnt Umber a commonly used color used to outline all the other colors or should I perhaps mix the base color with it? In my case it would be Burnt Umber with the base of Dark Prussian Blue and Medium Blue (all paints are Vallejo).
3. Where the tunic and trousers meet, should I outline there using the dark color (used to out line the tunic) or mix white with something else or perhaps just use Burn Umber?
I know I’ve asked many questions but I would appreciate some suggestions as I would really hate to use wrong combo of colors and mess things up.
Thanks

Hola!
For the blue I would mix black with the blue and make it pretty dark.
As for the white, you can try with slight amount of black creating a light light gray, maybe even try with some blue to this mix to get a 'cool' shade. If you want to make a warm shade add a tad of tan color to the mix. Try and see how it looks on your pallette and go from there!

I agree fairly close with Anders... a light to medium grey to outline the white trousers, but you might try a mix of purple and black to outline the dark blue... it sounds wierd, but looks "right". I learned this trick from Kim Jones who has written and published many books on the subject of figure painting.

Hola!
Good point Keith, as blue wears and gets sun faded, it somewhat turns pupleish, I do civil war reenactments and my yankee coat is pretty much purple.
But my question is, how is this suitable for the outlining?
