COLONEL BANESTRE TARLETON
HISTORICUS FORMA
STEP-BY-STEP GROUP BUILD
HOSTED BY CRAIG WHITAKER
INTRODUCTION

I. A little background

When I first proposed this project, those who were interested in participating were given two busts to choose from to be the subject of the build. The overwhelming choice was the Verlinden bust of Colonel Banestre Tarleton, item number 1933.

This bust should be readily available from many model suppliers, is not expensive, and will build up into an interesting and attractive piece for your collection.

II. Overview

My plan for this project is to present it in installments, with time between installments to permit you to complete the work, post questions and pictures for feedback from myself and the other participants, and make any changes you feel you might need. When everyone is ready (or gives their blessing), we値l move on to the next installment. There痴 no set time frame that you値l be held to.

Along with showing you my methods of painting with oils, I値l also be showing you how I go about assembling, mounting and displaying my busts.

III. Supplies

I値l be giving you a list of items that I think you値l need for this project. This will include the obvious things like the bust and the paints we値l be using, as well as some things that you may not have thought of when getting ready for this project. Items like a base to display the piece when it痴 finished, brass tubing to reinforce the joints between the head, the body and the pedestal as well as for mounting the piece to a base.

IV. Miscellaneous
I originally said that I wouldn稚 post anything until I had the piece finished and the entire article written. After some thought, I decided to make a little change to that idea. With this installment and the next one (coming real soon), I値l be giving you the information you値l need to get your bust ready to paint. That should speed up the process for everyone and help keep up your interest at the same time.

With this post I知 going to lock the three previous threads that we致e been using to talk about this project. When I lock them, I値l also include a link to get folks to this post.

I知 also going to lock each of the installments to follow. This is to help keep them intact for anyone that wants to look them over or even print them out. For each installment I値l create an accompanying thread where everyone can post their in progress pictures, questions and comments. Of course, you can always start your own individual progress threads if you like. I just can稚 guarantee that I値l see all of your posts. Having them all in one thread per installment will make things a lot easier on me for keeping track of every ones progress J.

I知 planning to be making each installment available to anybody that wants them in .PDF form too. I figure that that壮 a pretty universal format for viewing on their home computer with free Adobe Acrobat Reader software. Just contact me and I値l email them to you.

So, my thanks to those of you that have expressed your interest and enthusiasm for this idea. I know that I知 going to enjoy hosting the project. I hope that you all enjoy it and find it to be worth your time and efforts. If you致e just come across this and are interested in participating, please join us.

Thanks,
Craig Whitaker (Mongo Mel)
