JPTRR = Jackson Purchase & Texas Rail Road, my modeling masterpiece.

JPTRR c. 1900 (the line into New Mexico extends through Arizona, to Imperial, CA, thence Oceanside, CA to San Diego and Los Angeles. This is a more precise depiction of the route, with only a few sections no able to be traced by map makers:

It began 30+ years ago as my freelance model RR. It has grown from a no-nothing flight of fancy into a highly detailed archived model empire.

My great-grandfather was an engineer on the RI and my grandpa had a HO scale layout.
I've been a train person since I cam outta my mom and I've wanted a HO scale layout since I was 8 years old
My HO scale layout is in the works and a Muscatine North and South n scale shelf layout is in the works

I am from the other side from Luke - i model O scale 1/48 narrow gauge- I work in 2ft 6 also know as On30 - very popular due to Bachmann - I started in 1987 in this scale - built my first kit bash of a deisel over a ho mech - have love trains since I was young - My father is one of the pioneers in Australian Sn3ft 6 and an avid scratch builder.
I have built 5 exhibition layouts with my Dad and also by myself - am now looking at using all the buildings and details to build my own empire
It is a free lanced Branch line being based on the shire railways of Queensland but also mining- peopled by 1/4 scale Teddy Bears,Dwarves, and Orks -Yes I know I am strange.
I also do a range of 1/4 scale figures.

-My interest stems from my 1975 N-Scale Christmas Present from Dad. A layout he didn't get to see too much of because of his dying the following summer. I'm in the process of re-aquiring all the buildings I used to have on that old layout and plan to use them somewhere on the U shaped, around the room N-Scale layout that WILL be The C.A.R.R.

Prototype or freelance? - not sure about the question, but these are clearly marketed to collectors.

Less-is-more or super detailed? - I like super detailed hobby models, but these are average.

Era-specific? - post '60s

"Just runnin' trains" or operation-oriented? - I'd like to have a full operational layout someday, but right now they're static, very static.

What is your interest in the hobby and what kind of model layout do you have (or are planning?) - I would like to someday complete an operational layout of different scales of trains weaving through buildings and vehicles of various scales. The entire build would be sci-fi fantasy, but each item and detail would replicate realism.

Would we like to create a gallery and post your trackplan and photos? - I don't have either of those yet for what I just described, but I made a little product review with pictures of a freight train car I recently bought and would like to buy the whole series set when I find more. They are a toy collector train series of freight cars with "graffiti" on them. The scale is not compatible with the HO and N scale pieces I already have. * "The encyclopedia of Model Railways" was (and stil is) a great inspiration for my (editor was Terry Allen, about 24 contributers...)

* In my youth Rolf Ertmer published a series of books about European Model Railroads (mostly based on his Kasselhohe-Altenbeken layout)

* At the moment a copy of "303 Tips for Detailing Model Railroad Scenery and Structures" by Dave Frary and Bob Hayden is laying under my bed.
* And of course watched the video of John Allens Gorre & Daphetid dozens of times!

My main interest are American RailRoads in general and more specific the Santa Fe´ Railroad during the late ´40s and early ´60s.

My layout will depict a small (free-lanced) branch of the Santa Fe´ Rail Road.
We are located in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, trafficking the South Western from Texas, (New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Nevada) to the borders of the Sierras and California.

The name of my RR are Santa Fe´, Texas & Pacific RR.

My layout will be a walk in style (open "O"), measuring about 7m x 5m (about 21ft x 15ft) and I have a Lentz 02 DCC system.

I am planning 2 model railroads both variants on the same general theme. The first is a post apocalyptic version of the Harz narrow-gauge lines. The second is a marklin post apocalyptic line in near Munich which was spared by a dud nuke. All I need to build them is more space I have the trains track and digital control systems for both.

HO: San Jacinto,Gulf & Southern - Post war port modeled on the Houston/Galveston area, 3rd iteration 7' x 11' 3' wide sectional point to point switching layout. Stockpiled, no track, nothing built yet. Last one destroyed in move 3 years ago under suspicious circumstances (Wife did it but never has admitted)! It's OK, I wanted to change out to code 83 track anyway.
N: Port city in mountains, 3 level Spaghetti bowl track plan I'm questioning. Stockpiled, Atlas Code 55, MRC, thinking about DCC for the first time, benchwork finished and camoflaged in the garage.
Z: Talked the wife into a Coffee Table layout that we can "change to Winter" for the holidays. Simple track plan consisting of a Lynn Wescott triple loop spliced into a Noch dogbone, Micro-Trains track still in the package, MRC Micro-Trains modified power pack, no locomotive yet, plenty of cars, a handful of buildings. Going to the local Cedar mill next week to scrounge up some lumber for the table! WooHoo! Need more switches, make some signals, and some 1/4" plate glass. One of these will be operational this year! No more stuff accumulating for nothing.

I like the rolling stock freight I see everyday. Autoracks and reefers are my favorites. The weathering and the giant mighty steel

Like KS1 above, I finally have a decent answer for this thread.
Toy or Model: Model (though I like the challenge of trying to make a model from a toy)

Proto or Freelance: I have both-- mostly Milwaukee Road, Belt Railway of Chicago, and Wisconsin and Calumet (a 1980's regional RR), and my own freelance Chicago & Lannon (based heavily on the WICT and its child WSOR)

Less-is-More or Superdetailed: I do add detail, but focus on reliable operations and the handling my trains take, with traveling to modular shows and having kids.

Era-specific?: I try to focus my MILW equipment on 1975. I have a belief that most RR modelers focus on their own childhood years, but maybe it's just me.

Who do you emulate?: I often read Tony Koester's contributions to MR and to a yahoo group called "Proto-Layouts". I also love the book "Track Planning for Realistic Operation" by John Armstrong.

Shiny or Weathered?: I lightly weather my equipment.
Running or operations: Operation

What interest, layout plan, photos:

unbuilt so far-- the benchwork is in, and half the Styrofoam base, but no permanent trackwork yet.

That dual at-grade crossing was supposed to be Rondout (http://www.dhke.com/CRJ/rondout.html), but instead of 1 crossing 2, I made it busier-looking. The specific locales in my original design have loosened somewhat, and we'll see how it finally looks when everything is together.
The caboose started as a simple, old Rivarossi. I added wire details, styrene marker lights, Kadee boxes and couplers, and the weather window spare from a loco (I think my Proto 2000 GP9), and cut off the toolbox underneath.

Further detail on the Wisconsin & Calumet caboose.

You can just make out the "Rivarossi" partly under the air reservoir tank. I added metal wheels to the existing trucks. The screws for the coupler boxes had to be trimmed short so they didn't stick out of the walkway above.
It was actually bought by the WICT from TP&W, a Midwestern sub of the ATSF. I think they don't say "caboose" either, but rather "waycar". It still exists at the Mid-Continent Railroad Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin.
I labeled it with my initials, because at clean-up time after a modular layout show, when everyone is frantically stuffing everything into boxes, it becomes an issue whose car is whose.
