In-Box Review
WWII USMC Stretcher Team

by: Mark Bannerman [ 2112 ]

Itís been quite a while since I have had a chance to look over a Warriorís figure. I have just received one of Warriorís latest releases (WA 35545) depicting a US Marine stretcher party - and I am impressed ! The quality of the casting is exceptional and the subject matter is superbly animated. The sturdy box contains four running marines and an injured marine cast onto the stretcher. The kit also provides a resin base.

The first detail I noticed is that the four running marines are all differently sculpted. All too often, manufacturers depicting similarly posed figures in a multi-figure set (walking, running) will typically put two or three of the same figure in the box. In this figure set, each figure is unique and the sculpting by Bill Chilstrom is superb.

All figures are cast in a crisp light yellow resin, and each comes with separate arms, head, rifle and bayonet. Some clean up of flash is required and resin plugs are conveniently located under the figuresí boots which is extremely helpful in minimizing the clean up process. There are very few seam lines and removal of these is a cinch.

The detail on each figure is very well executed. Nicely sculpted folds, excellent detail on the belt accessories and pouches, and the heads have real "urgency" character. I also appreciate the fact that the clothing has some rips and tears which adds to the realism of the vignette. Another interesting note is the tremendous attention to the sculpting of the hand.

The resin base included in the kit is a superb addition depicting a Pacific beach with a tree stump and debris.

The overall appeal for this instant vignette and unusual subject should make the hard core allied very happy. I rate this as a top notch figure set with well executed sculpting, casting and choice of pose. This is an 8 out of 10.

I look forward to putting paint to resin on this one.
