In-Box Review
Lee 1864

by: Costas Rodopoulos [ MAJOR_GOOSE ]

This 54 mm figure is from Spainís Andrea Miniatures and represents the famous American Civil War General Robert E. Lee. It was released in 2004.

The pack:
The figure is boxed in the usual Andrea pack with beautiful box art. On the back there are three more pictures of the finished figure to help the painter. An Andrea color chart listing the necessary colors is also included on the back of the box. All of the colors listed are from the Andrea line of paints.

The figure:
Inside the box, we find five well-protected pieces of white metal, and a quality control certificate.
The figure is molded in one solid piece with both arms attached. The right hand is molded to the figure while the left hand -- sculpted to the generalís sword -- is a separate piece.

Additional detail parts include a leather scabbard belt and the twin decorative ending of the Generalís uniform lace. There is also a small piece of base representing a stone floor.

The casting is top quality with no flaws and almost zero need for cleaning -- typical of what we expect from Andrea.

The face is nicely represented, with clear characteristics showing the personality of the General.

Sculpting is very nice, with a level of detail that is more than satisfying. It will be a pleasure to paint -- the color simplicity and the one piece-body mold will add a lot to this.

The pose represents Lee as if heís posing for a photograph, and the figure will surely look nice when finished in any collection.

Overall, this is a good choice of a classic theme. The figure should prove easy enough to paint for most builders and nice addition to all collections

Featuring General Lee as if heís posing for a photograph, and the figure will surely look nice when finished in any collection.

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
